Refried Beans without the Refry
This is a very tasty recipe, with no lard!
I have adapted this recipe over the years a bit. First, you may want to skip the jalapenos if you are cooking for little ones, but it does take a bit away from the flavor. I use a can of green chilis instead.
I use my slow cooker, put the dried beans in and use chicken broth instead of water to soak/cook the beans. Because of this less salt is necessary. I just wait and add salt in the end after I've tasted it. The chicken broth really gives this a nice pop of flavor.
I also use a ridiculous amount of cumin, probably 3-4 tablespoons.
