Brown Sugar Maple Baked Beans
I have struggled to find an acceptable recipe for baked beans. We do not like the standard Boston Bean Recipes that are molasses based and prefer the brown sugar based recipes.
I've been happy with this one overall with a few minor changes to adapt to the slow cooker.
First, while we LOVE bacon, we don't like soggy bacon in baked beans. I make the bacon, reserve the grease, and add the grease to the slow cooker along with the other ingredients. I chop the crispy bacon, then only add sprinkles to the top of each serving as it is served.
I cook the onions and peppers on the stovetop first, then put everything in the slow cooker with the exception of the corn starch which isn't added until the end.
Once finished, I freeze them in portion-sized containers for future meals.
If you prefer to soak and cook dried beans, this recipe calls for about 1lb of dried beans.
